sample itinerary:

Day 1 — Arrival in Tanzania

You will be in safe hands with our team from the moment you set foot in Tanzania!

Our driver will meet you when you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Depending on your arrival time, you will spend the night at a nearby lodge or take a scenic drive to Karatu, the safari hub for Tanzania’s national parks.

Day 2 — Tarangire National Park

We begin our safari at Tarangire National Park - this one is for elephant lovers!

Tarangire protects a critical migration corridor that links multiple ecosystems. On hot afternoons, wildlife congregates at the scenic Tarangire River. This park is also known for its iconic baobab trees.

Day 3 — Ngorongoro Crater

We set out before dawn to catch sunrise overlooking one of the most extraordinary places on Earth.

Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, created when a volcano erupted and collapsed in on itself 2-3 million years ago. This 10-mile-wide crater is now covered in grassland and home to one of Africa’s densest concentrations of wildlife.

Day 4 — Karatu Rest

We slow down in Karatu, in the green highlands near the crater rim. After a couple of long safari days, enjoy sleeping in and a leisurely breakfast.

Karatu town offers a glimpse into everyday Tanzanian life: Visit a coffee farm, go on a hike, or check out a local market. If you’d like to shop for souvenirs, Rapha will bring you to wonderful local businesses to support.

Day 5 — Enter the Serengeti

We travel west into the Serengeti ecosystem, a magical place made famous by countless nature documentaries. Its name means “endless plains” in the language of the local Maasai tribe. This national park protects an area the size of Belgium.

Here, predators and prey move through thousands of miles each year in a seasonal migration that’s driven by rain and grass. Rapha will plan your safari based on the season of your visit, ensuring that you stay in the area of the park closest to the migrating herds.

Day 6 — Full Serengeti Immersion

We spend a full day exploring the Serengeti.

Each day in this park is a unique adventure; Rapha’s experience in and knowledge of this ecosystem is crucial to finding special sightings in this vast landscape.

Day 7 — Departure or Zanzibar Extension

We return toward Arusha for onward travel. Some guests take a short flight to Zanzibar, to relax at the beach after a week on safari. Others choose to head north to Kenya, to experience another African country. Rapha is happy to provide recommendations and trusted connections for further travel in Africa.
